Linus and Toiletting
Bug = 3 years 5 months
Bub = 1 year 7 months What was Linus up to at this age?
Bud = 32 weeks 1 day gestation
It’s a long time since I’ve given an update on Linus and his toiletting.
At Home
At home, Linus has progressed to using the toilet (standing) every time he does wees now. For poos, however, he’s been far more happy using the potty.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to get a step-stool for Linus with non-slip feet so that he could safely climb up to the toilet, and Nana, Daddy and I decided to make renewed efforts to get him used to the toilet. We can all live with the bum-wiping for a while yet, but we’re getting sick of emptying potties!
Ironically, the major challenge for us is that Linus is so self-sufficient! He knows when he needs to go, disappears, opens the bathroom door, and the first we know of it is his yelling “Wipe my bum!!”* This makes it hard for us to catch him before he starts and convince him to use the toilet (with the toddler insert seat). When we do manage to intercept him, he tends to be pretty co-operative about using the toilet (he’s a lovely boy!!!!).
* Or more commonly lately, summoning us and asking us if we want to wash our hands, if we’re busting, or if we would like to keep him company.
Out and About
When we’re going out with Linus, we often forget now to even take spare undies and trousers like we used to because accidents are pretty rare these days.
We do try to prompt Linus to use the toilet before we go out, and also if we’re out and think a toilet might be difficult to access soon:
Mummy: Can you please go to the toilet before we go?
Linus: I don’t need to.
Mummy: Well, just go and see if you have any wees.
Nights
Linus sometimes wets the bed, but probably only a couple of times a week (depending on the week). It’s no big deal… although we probably need to buy more a few more sheets now that Ada’s in a bed too!
It does suck a bit more when he wets OUR bed when he’s keeping us company in the middle of the night, since OUR bed doesn’t have the plastic sheets that his does!
Bob does often try to take Linus to the toilet in the late evening before we shift him from his bedtime sleeping place (our bed) to his own bed, but often the wee angel is just too comatose! Bob will also try to take Linus – or at least ask him – in the middle of the night if the opportunity arises. I also try to get Bob to catch Linus when he’s stirring in the morning, but superDad is in his lowest performance mode at this time of day and it’s often a bit much to ask.
