Winter Outings

Bug = 3 years 3 months
Bub = 1 year 5 months 14 days What was Linus up to at this age?
Bud = 24 weeks 2 days gestation

The weather has been very soggy lately, but we had a few bright days last week and definitely wanted to get out of the house.

Chancarla Farmpark

On Wednesday, after storytime at the library, Nana took Linus and Ada out to nearby Chancarla Farmpark just over the hill from our place. We’d known about this obscure place for a while (thanks SA!) but this was “our” first visit (Mummy and Daddy missed out this time, but maybe next time…).

Equipped with jackets, gumboots, and buckets of bread, Nana and the kids were given a tour of the farm by owner Trish. Ada was apparently fearless with the animals, but needed a little help with her feeding technique. Linus was a bit more shy, but particularly liked the fawn.

Fun with Mum

The following day dawned and I realised that for once I had absolutely nothing planned. The sunshine outside and the fun the kids had had without me the previous day both convinced me that it was time for me to get out and have some fun with Nana and the kids and completely forget about washing, dishes, and cooking!

First stop was a bush walk at Ross Creek Reservoir, where Nana and I enjoyed taking turns with each child, going at their pace and not being rushed or slowed down by the other (as always happens if one adult tries to enjoy a walk with both kids).

Our next stop was a rest area on the Silver Stream where the kids have enjoyed going in the past – I’m sure Linus could spend HOURS on end throwing stones into water! Unfortunately heavy rain meant that the landscape had changed a little, and fast flowing water was cutting off access to most of the stones, but Ada enjoyed sitting playing in the mud, and Linus found sticks and a few pebbles that kept him interested for half an hour.

We finished our busy morning with fish and chips at the Spiderman Park in Mosgiel, where the kids got even dirtier than they already were.

I had a wonderful time going – mostly – at the kids’ pace instead of my own!
