Count the Stars

Bug = 2 years 6 months
Bub = 8 months 12 days What was Linus up to at this age?

Heard moments ago as Daddy and Linus count the stars on his new shoes:

Daddy: One… two… three… four… five… six!

Linus: Yeah, three.

Daddy: No, SIX!

Linus: Oh, yeah, six… I forgot!

Ada’s First Swim

Grumpy Linus in Bath

About a week ago, Ada went for her first swim. It was a big family affair with Mummy, Daddy, Nana, and Linus. She seemed to enjoy it, and didn’t mind being dunked. Linus was pretty easy-going in the water when he was young (he was first dipped at 6 months), but as time has gone on he’s become a little less confident. This is natural, I suppose, as children get more understanding of the world and consequences.

Linus hasn’t been swimming much for a while. Aunty Claire and Nana often took him when I was working, but since Ada was born he’s probably only been twice.

We’ll try to go more often now, either with Nana or with Daddy. It’s a treat to go with a spare adult – it means each adult can get their money’s worth with a chance to swim/play/spa on their own.

She’s Crawling!

NEWSFLASH!!

As of moments ago, my girl’s CRAWLING!

Daddy and I were both here to witness it. It’s a funny looking affair, with her right leg tucked underneath her rather than behind her, but the motion is purposeful and speedy. Our lives – and particularly Linus’s – have changed dramatically!

Christchurch Again

Bug = 2 years 6 months
Bub = 8 months 8 days What was Linus up to at this age?

This weekend we took a trip to Christchurch to visit Aunty Andi and Uncle Matt.

Ada Having a Daddy NapTravel

The trip up was not too bad, but Ada cried quite a lot. We ended up leaving the inside light on in the car for about half an hour so that she could see her toys, which unfortunately meant Linus couldn’t go to sleep. While Ada was screaming, I swore I’d never do this again; ten minutes later when she and her brother were finally asleep, I decided it wasn’t too bad after all.

The kids were both brilliant on the drive home, but we managed to somehow get a flat battery just south of Timaru – maybe the battery had been drained by the aforementioned “light on” experiment? Thanks to a few friendly fellows from the dairy factory we broke down at, we weren’t delayed too much.

Tooth

As we drove up, I suggested to Bob that Ada might get her first tooth over the weekend. There weren’t any signs of an imminent arrival, but I was basing the prediction on the fact that Linus was about this age when he got his first tooth AND his tooth popped out while we were on a holiday in Napier.

Sure enough, on Saturday Aunty Andi was being chewed on by Ada, and she noticed that her bottom right tooth was poking through!

Finger Painting

Bug = 2 years 6 months
Bub = 8 months 1 day

Linus and SSO Finger-PaintingLinus had his wee friend SSO over today, and they had a great time together using finger-paints. Linus has painted at Nana’s before, but had never finger-painted, so after asking a few times for a paint brush (“Just use your fingers!”), he got into his creative flow. SSO wasn’t quite so keen on getting her hands dirty, but I’m sure after a few more tries she’ll be in elbow-deep.

Thanks to RH for making the finger-paints (and lending us her daughter) and thanks to Nana for doing most of the dispensing, demonstrating, and cleaning up of the paints.
