Poor Ada!

This morning I noticed some blood on the outside of Ada’s booty, but I couldn’t imagine she’d been bleeding and figured it had more likely come off my horribly cracked Mummy hands.

However later on when I was changing her nappy, I found these scratches/grazes on the outside of her left leg :(

Grazes on Ada's Leg

I’ve got no idea how it happened. She may have managed to do it herself with her fingernails, but I think it’s unlikely. Perhaps Linus did it accidentally with his nails at some point when he was trying to move her around? But there are quite a few marks there, so it seems like more than a single movement could cause. And one particular mark is very wide and couldn’t be from a cat’s claw.

I tried asking Linus, but the problem with that is… how can I put this?… He’s two years old. So clear, factual answers are a bit tricky to obtain. He did say “Linus did it”, but I think he was asking me rather than telling me, and I didn’t think pushing the issue would yield me any more reliable information.

So I don’t think I’ll ever know how it happened *sigh*.

Linus in the Cupboard

Sympathetic Brother

When Ada cries, Linus often kindly says “Poor Ada!“. Recently, he’s also started saying “Ada need Mummy!“, and even “Ada need Linus!“.

Hiding

Linus can now open our hallway cupboard, and he loves opening and shutting it and playing with all the goodies it holds, like the vacuum cleaner.

The other day I walked past and, out of habit, pushed it shut. 20 seconds later I heard some muffled crying, and I eventually worked out that I’d shut him in! At least the way the cupboard’s set up he can’t shut himself in there, but I’m sure I’m in for many more such accidents when there are multiple mobile kids around.

Kookaburra

Linus and MummyBug = 2 years 2 months

I sing Linus the kookaburra song every time I get to a picture of one in his Three Billy Goats Gruff book. This morning I asked Linus to say “kookaburra“. He very carefully enunciated “kiss-a-bubba“.

And we’re having heavy snowfall (that’s not settling – yet) on and off today. In the middle of April!

Ada Developments

Bug = 2 years 2 months
Bub = 3 months 30 days

First Roll

Yesterday I put Ada down on the floor for some tummy time. With a big brother stomping around she gets precious little of this (although I have read that babies being worn are getting similar developmental benefit). Almost immediately, she gave a push and had rolled over onto her back.

First LaughAda in the Puku Pouch

A couple of days ago my friend RG visited with her baby JG, who is five days older than Ada. My mum and I were tickled pink by his hysterical and infectious chuckling.

Today I went out for about half an hour, leaving Nana with RR and my kids. When I got back, Nana tried to get Linus and Ada to show me what they’d been doing – Nana had been holding Ada up to watch Linus flop down on his bed while giggling, and Ada had been chuckling away at her brother’s antics. Unfortunately she wouldn’t repeat the performance for me, but I imagine Daddy and I will be working far harder than ever to get reactions out of Ada in the evenings.

Sling

I’ve used ring slings and front packs for a long time with Linus, but I’ve splashed out on something new for using with Ada: a Puku Pouch. It’s been a week, and I haven’t used it a lot, but we’re both gradually getting used to it. Today was a bit of a milestone – Ada slept in it for the first time while I was out at my La Leche League coffee group, and I even managed to change a poo-ey toddler nappy while she slept on me!

In Hot Water

Bug = 2 years 1 month
Bub = 3 months 29 days

Linus now has a little chair in the bathroom so that he can stand at the basin to brush his teeth and wash his hands. He can also turn the taps on and put the plug in. And today he got in there unattended, and I think he slightly scalded himself :(

So today we did what we’ve thought about doing for ages – turned our hot water temperature down to 50 degrees Celsius!

I suggest you do this before your child is capable of doing the same.

(Scary: hot water at 52°C will take 2 minutes to cause a serious burn; hot water at 60°C will do it in just 6 seconds!)

A Wee Surprise

Bug = 2 years 1 month
Bub = 3 months 29 days

Linus Waking UpLinus’s toilet training hasn’t really been happening lately. After a wonderful start (he used the potty one day, then three times the next day), the novelty quickly wore off, and he even seems to have started to enjoy peeing in unusual places, such as on the roof of his toy garage and in his Duplo box. It’s been weeks since a successful potty wee.

So imagine Mummy and Daddy’s surprise this morning when we were chatting in the kitchen and Linus walked up carrying his potty and said “Wees!”. And indeed it was!
